The Dean Razorback V is version of the popular Dean V guitar. Sometimes coined as the Dean Dime Razorback V because it was designed with some help from Dimebag Darrell (now deceased) of Pantera and Damage Plan. The Dean Razorback V guitar has the edgy and sharp looks to it like its forefather, the original Razorback.
As with all the Dimebag guitars, the Razorback V has beautiful graphics on all the different models. This is an all mahogany equipped guitar from the body through to the neck. Like all Dean guitars, the Razorbacks have some decent substance to them and it’s very apparent the first time you have one in your hands. Floyd Rose makes the locking tremolo on the Dean Razorback V standard and other models, which is pretty much the best whammy bridge on the market.
The necks on the Dean Razorback are made of mahogany in a set-in fashion. They have ebony or rosewood fretboards with the signature Razorblade at the 12th fret. You have a choice of 24.75” and 25.5” scale necks on different models of the Dean Razorback V electric guitar. You get 24 frets on the longer scale model; this is my personal favorite to play on.
Pure heavy metal tone is my very best evaluation of the sound of the Razorback V. With a choice of a Seymour Duncan Dimebucker/Dimetime combo or EMG powered pickups, the output of these guitar instruments is very high to say the least. I’ve tried models with both types of pickups installed and for this guitar my nod goes to the Dimes. They have a little more versatility than the EMGs so if you like to play more melodic, less distorted music as well, you will be quite happy with the Dimes.
Dean has been making high quality, custom and made-to-order guitars for a long time and seems to deliver on that reputation. Dimebag was a hero of mine among guitarists and he stood behind the brand that he helped to create. If you’re into outrageous looking and sounding guitars then I highly recommend checking out a Dean Razorback V.
