Who Knows The Price Of An Ibanez Black Eagle Bass?

There have been many famous guitars over the years but few have created such a huge cult following as the Ibanez Black Eagle Bass.

The Ibanez Black Eagle was born in 1975 and is of Japanese construction. The body is made of heavy mahogany and the neck is maple with a maple fretboard. This combination is great for balancing out the deep tones of any Ibanez bass guitar. The neck inlays are pearl and are of some design that only the Japanese manufacturers could describe. The are quite odd and don't really take on any notable shapes. The pickguard is a black eagle and is one of the two characteristics that give these Ibanez guitars its identity. The second being its unique shape. The top horn hooks around and points back at the body. The bottom horn has a slight hook but not near as much as the top.

The feel and playability of the black eagle Ibanez is pretty awesome. I don't personally own one but I have played one many times and have experienced mostly great things. The only downside is the top horn. At times, when playing high on the neck, your fret hand can actually get locked into the horn which can be a little problematic. You just have to be aware of it and its easy to compensate. Other than that, the beautiful deep and rich tones that it creates are reminiscent of the classic rock days of The Who and Led Zeppelin.

I don't play enough bass to justify owning one right now but one day I would love to add a Black Eagle bass to my collection. This is a guitar that isn't made anymore and it would be a nice addition. My two close friends that each own one have stated many times that if it was ever damaged, lost or stolen they are not sure how they would replace the sound if another couldn't be found.

If you've ever done a search online for an Ibanez black eagle bass price, you'll find that they are generally in the $500 - $650 range for one that is in decent shape. Be extra diligent and trace the serial numbers as there are a lot of fake copies out there. Check with Ibanez guitar instruments for a confirmation.

I have a black eagle. The review pretty much sums the bass up, especially the thing about getting your hand caught in the horn. Its also worth mentioning that when he said ‘heavy mahogany’ he meant it. These mothers are heavy. I also play a Stingray. No slouch in the weight department. It makes the ‘ray feel light.
