The Ibanez RG1570 Gets Your Shredding Up To Speed

The Ibanez RG1570 is a guitar that many fast fingered guitar players will choose for its lightning fast neck and lightweight construction. To do a proper Ibanez RG1570 review I spent an afternoon at the guitar shop in my neighbourhood and gave it a real workout. The results weren’t short of satisfying and the afternoon was a real treat.

The 5 piece wizard neck is constructed of maple and walnut. Ibanez’ unique neck construction allow the wizard neck to be ultra thin yet be strong enough to withstand even the most aggressive of pick attacks. They achieve this by alternating laminate pieces of wood, in this case maple and walnut. I have personally never played a faster neck than the wizard. They are a little narrower than I normally play on because of my bigger hands but I’m still able to play fast and clean on these necks.

The body on the RG1570 Ibanez offers is made entirely of basswood which is a cheaper alternative to mahogany. Basswood is also a little lighter and a little more porous which makes for a slower resonance. The RG body style is definitely a comfortable design and it has a wonderful balance that is great for stand-up playing in a live setting and it sits well in your lap for casual sit-down playing as well. The Ibanez RG1570 guitar is one of the most comfortable you will ever play on.

Any lead guitarist that has played on an Ibanez RG1570 will most likely agree that the tone of these shred monsters is nothing short of face ripping :) . The stock pickup are: a V7 in the neck position, an S1 in the middle and a V8 back at the bridge. These are some of Ibanez’ highest output pickups and when you play around with the selector switch you can achieve 5 different combinations that will surely accommodate any tone you’re looking for. I usually swap out stock pickups for my own tastes from Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio but I was entirely happy with what I was hearing from these badboys. The bridge pickup when played by itself has a warm harmonic overtone to that I get from my Evolution pickup setup on a couple of my other guitars. The neck pickup was very articulate for chording when used by itself and I was most happy with this pickup.

I was especially happy with how well the tremolo bridge stayed in tune. Ibanez has really come a long ways with their tremolo setups. It was very impressive! I normally play with 10 gauge strings (this model had 9’s on it) so I would have to swap in some 10’s to know for sure how well the bridge can handle them and stay in tune.

The Ibanez RG1570 electric guitar is made in Japan under their Prestige line and the level of quality and good looks is always number one out of the factory. This particular model is not of the artist grade as far as paint jobs and quilted tops go, but it is a no nonsense performer that is flawless in its craftsmanship. Basic pearl dot inlays line the length of the RG1570’s 24 fret rosewood neck and the simple look of it all suits the whole look of this model.

It’s always a fun day when I get to test new guitar instruments and I always look forward to the RG line from Ibanez guitars. Until next time, I’ll leave you with some decisions to make.
