Do like your guitars to be unique in looks and sound? The Schecter Avenger Hellraiser definitely has the unique looks. I was so sick of owning a mainstream looking guitar. All you see these days are copies of LPs or Strats or SGs, etc. When I first saw the Schecter Hellraiser Avenger I was really inspired to own a new guitar again.
But, how do they sound? I had never played on any Schecter guitars before, let alone a Schecter Hellraiser. All I can say is if you enjoy playing raunchy music then a guitar from this series is going to really impress you.
After reading a positive Schecter Hellraiser Avenger review or two I was convinced to go out and try one out. My local shop had all the Hellraiser models so I had the luxury of trying them all out. These high-end guitar instruments are made from only the best cuts of mahogany and it really shows up in the overtones of the guitars. Deep, dark yet warm is all I can say about the Avenger when played cleanly on a deep to mid range amp. But where this guitar really shines is when you crank up the volume on the EMG pickups and turn up the gain on a distorted amp. It sounds like pure scream, if that makes any sense
. Now add a distortion to the mix and you will most definitely melt the paint off the walls…lol.
If you’re used to playing on fast-necked guitars then you’ll feel right at home on the Avenger Hellraiser. If not, then you’ll quickly learn how to shred because of the ease of neck navigation. The uniquely designed 24 fret neck has perfect access at every fret and this makes it extremely easy to play on.
Currently the Schecter Avenger Hellraiser only comes with a hardtail, string-through body option, while some of the other Hellraiser models offer tremolos. For me, a non-tremolo guitar is totally alright because I don’t tend to incorporate whammy bar styles into my music. If a tremolo is not something that’s important to you either then the Avenger could be perfect.
The black cherry color is the one I chose and looks absolutely amazing with the abalone binding and gunmetal colored hardware. This is by far the best guitar I’ve owned as far as quality and tone, and it’s my favorite looking as well. Give your heavy metal style of playing a boost with one of these bad boys.
