You should learn how to play the guitar with the right stuff and equipment needed. Here’s how

The guitar

The guitar should be the priority, you should get or borrow a guitar to learn to play it. Your learning speed will depend on how much time you spent with your guitar. Note that there are some things you need to check to see if the guitar is functional and effective for your practice – especially for those who are planning to buy a new one.

  • It should tune well and stays in tune
  • It is audible and you’re able to hear clearly the chords, each string, etc.
  • No hissing or noisy sounds especially for electric
  • It has no break that affects the sound of the instrument
  • It should be playable and loved by you

Try to check these out if anything applies. Don’t just get any guitar choose the best guitar for you.

The lessons

There are tons of lessons but you need to do them step-by-step. You don’t have to grasp everything all at once, it will only get you frustrated and overwhelmed. Start slow and always begin with learning chords. If by chance you already play easily, you then step to effective exercises. You need to do this basic exercise to condition your fingers, as well as other muscles that is needed in guitar playing. Once you develop strength, you can proceed to scale.

Learning a bit of scale is nice, it helps you form chords and play lead solos, start with major scales specifically G major. Once you learn this scale, you can easily transpose it across the fret board with different keys.

A mentor or friend

You’ll need to have somehow a mentor or friend to keep you motivated or updated with your guitar lessons. Sometimes, guitar playing needs output, showing off what you learn is actually productive, but not to the extent of bragging though. Sharing ideas and techniques with friends is one good thing to have.

A schedule

You need a good schedule to make things work. Start with setting 1 to 2 hours a day. However, if you are serious with truly learning guitar, the average time spent by professionals is about 3 hours each day. This includes training, exercises, learning new licks, mastering scales and playing songs. Creating songs is not part of this training schedule, you'll have to devote some other time for those.

There are more things you need to learn guitar. The earlier you start. the better results you get in the future!
